Title:

G Major Scale Modes

Info:

All these scales have the same notes as G Major - G A B C D E F# G
This illustrates how the scales tie together across the fretboard.

However, on their own, each scale can also be used to correspond to different chords.
For this, it’s convenient to write the scales relative to what the major scale is:
Ionian: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1
Mixolydian: 1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 1
We can see the difference between Ionian and Mixolydian is a b7, so Ionian will fit better over a major chord (1 3 5 or 1 3 5 7) whereas Mixolydian will fit better over a seven chord (1 3 5 b7)
